A painter and creative professional who works and lives in London, Ontario, Canada

I have been painting on and off for many years and was offered a solo show at the age of 21, which I turned down because the very idea of it scared the shit out of me.

In terms of subject matter and perspective, I try not to overthink what it is that compels me to paint what I do. I find it is better to just trust my instincts and follow whatever it is that is interesting enough to inspire action.

After a life-long career of writing and designing award-winning work for commercial means, it is vitally important that my paintings be accountable to no one else on this earth but me. I believe the work I produce is all the better for it, but then again I would, wouldn’t I?

My love of cars is nothing new, however my desire to paint them in all their forms is. The Haute Wheels collection - which will continue to grow - is a way for me to tap into the play of my youth and the simple toys that we had that ran on our imagination instead of batteries. I only want to paint the ones well-used, and I see their chips and scratches as badges of honour.

The car chases are another thing entirely. I think any car enthusiast has their favourite car chase scenes, and I thought it would be interesting to take a media that relies on a sequence of images and see if I could boil them down into one. In some ways, they’re not that different from my toy cars in that they rely on the imagination or memory of the viewer to bring them to life.

As for the car portrait commissions, it’s really as simple as mutual admiration for a thing of mechanical and aesthetic beauty. To their owners, they’re more than just cars, so I want to give them something that is more meaningful than a photograph.
